Yesterday we arrived in Italy. We took a flight from Dubai at 1:30am (ouch!) and landed in Zurich, Switzerland seven hours later. We waited three hours for the connecting flight from Switzerland to Milan, Italy (the actual flight time is only about 40 minutes) and arrived in Milan very tired. We checked in to our hotel, the very elegant and posh Principe di Savoia, showered and went out and about in search of.......... a pizza. One half hour later we found a very famous pizzeria (Di Genaro) and had the best pizza I had eaten in a while (i.e., since I left New York). It is amazing how you can go on a worldwide trip with all types of fabulous cuisines but will always miss the pizza and bagels (i.e. we from the tri-state area). At that moment when the Margherita Pizza arrived (basil, mozzarella and tomato), I would have gladly traded all of the filet mignon and lobster in the world for it!. After being completely satisfied, we went walking around the Duomo area, saw La Scala and traversed the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping concourse before looking around one of the most famous (and expensive) shopping streets in the world- Via Montenapoleone. I must say the Milanese people are very elegant. If you think that you know how to dress and are stylish, you will be very humbled in Milan, where the people are born with a certain natural elegance ("spezzatura" in Italian). The Duomo, Milan's and Italy's largest cathedral (and the fourth largest in the world) is simply breathtaking! Dedicated to Santa Maria Nascente, its grayish pink exterior and spires rising like icicles in the sky against the backdrop of Milan is beautiful. Time to sleep!
