Lufthansa Flight 500

People who don't travel cannot have a global view, all they see is what's in front of them. Those people cannot accept new things because all they know is where they live.

Today we flew from Frankfurt, Germany to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The bad part was that the flight was over 13 hours. The good part was that we flew on Lufthansa airlines in their first class cabin. The pampering started when we arrived at the airport. Not only does Lufthansa have a separate first class check-in, they have a separate first class building. I literally was the only one at the security check-in and was then taken to the lounge where they have a restaurant serving free a la carte food before the flight. They have showers and beds to sleep in as well as a full bar. After eating some breakfast, the representative called us and took us outside where there was a Mercedes sedan to drive us to the airplane on the runway. Once on the airplane, the service was even better. There were 8 seats which fully reclined to lie flat beds but only 4 passengers (3 of whom were us). So we literally had 2 flight attendants and 2 bathrooms for 4 people. They even gave a seat to Ashley's pet camel Claire! This made the long flight much more enjoyable.  We were offered hot towels, juice, water and some nuts upon boarding. We were then presented with a menu to order our lunch which would be served in 3 hours. I took a 2 hour nap and was awakened to a nice snack of fruit, cheeses and sandwiches. Three hours later we had dinner and were offered snacks, drinks, coffee and desserts throughout the whole flight. I really commend Lufthansa on their top notch service (PS- I only ate so much since I would be training in Rio-(yeah right)-training to eat Brazilian food!)

Claire, Ashley's pet camel from the Burj al Arab in Dubai, only flies first class!

Our transport right to the runway

Only 8 seats in the cabin (and today only one other passenger)

The seat reclines into a fully flat bed

Service on the plane as in a fine restaurant (BTW, here pictured is my favorite flight attendant!)

Our appetizer of chèvre cheese over taboulleh

A delicious salad with citrus dressing

Unfortunately no mustard!

Lunch Main Course- Shrimp and Scallops over lentils

A snack of ham and vegetables

Dessert of chocolate mousse, fruit salad or creme caramel (or try all 3 like I did!)

Dinner of Beef with wine and pepper sauce with potato au gratin

Delicious cake to start the dessert

Good German ice wine goes well with dessert

The fresh roses are a nice touch!

Bitter lemon to wash it all down

Fresh fruit

Finish with cappuccino and dark chocolate
